Top 55 of All Time? - Part 2

So in part two, I will continue counting down but let me also clue you in as to why some of your afvorite current rappers aren't in this countdown. I know someone is going to say Drake is better than Mase, why isn't he on the list? The reason is simple, he hasn't done nearly enough to prove himself to me as a critic and a fan. One half assed album does not get you onto the top 55 for me. My

So I had to listen to the Racks remix even though it is terribly annoying and YC is one of the new most awfullest rappers ever, and he has the nerve to also have Yo Gotti and Ace Hood on the song. One thing I noticed, is Nelly back or did City Spud come home and start writing him some bars because his verse was best, and while there wasn't much competition, that's always impressive for Nelly.

Why Record Sales Matter

Now I'm pretty sure that at some point in the past couple of years I posed the question of do the record sales actually matter. To me, they don't because there are so many extra things that go into the actual numbers when it comes to sales, some of which I will get into as I detail this post even more.

As a consumer, sales don't matter to me. You could say Nelly or Mase who both sold great

Album Review- Nelly- 5.0

Now I knew Nelly had a new single out, then another, but I was truly hoping he didn't do another album. I mean He's good for a single here and there, but his albums haven't been anything to write home about save for those singles. Let me tell you, this album has some subtle hilarity to it.

Nelly's first single is "Just a Dream" and it's a typical crossover hit with Nelly's sing-song flow and his

Hating is natural if you want to be the best...

I was listening to albums from the past year as I get ready to give out my 'awards' from 2010. One of the candidates, Wale, on his intro song talks about the "crabs" in the DC area. I am now going to hypothesize that if you want to be the best in your area or city and make it to a national stage, at some point, you'll probably be a hater.

The first reason is the simplest, rappers are egotistical

So let's talk another stupid list

BET dropped its list of the top 10 rappers of the 21st century (like we don't know that it's only been 10 years). Once again we have a bunch of people who are kissing ass and not being critical enough of their peers. Taking away Jay-z for no apparent reason other than to not have be named number 1 at something else. Fine I can take that but when i looked at the rankings I noticed that it is

Speaking on the new trends- Ras Kass has a point

Take a listen at the above while you start to read this preface to the meat of the post. The funniest part about this is that he is pretty much right when he is talking about the role reversals in urban music now and how things have switched up over the past 10-12 years.

To surmise he is saying that women have become empowered to be more like men in their mentality while singers have adapted

Positive Posse Cuts

Rappers are always talking about how they are just speaking about the experiences in their environment and that their music isn't for kids. They always disown the fact that they are indeed role models whether they choose to be or not. These artists have major influence amongst the youth and though they don't regularly make music that shows a positive light, or give direction in something other

When Hip-hop was Hip-hop and not R and B

Thanks to TheTesha for the topic today. These days there is a merging of hip-hop and R and B, and not just Ne-yo being on everyone's single. Today's artists can be considered more well rounded especially when it comes to hip-hop. They have the ability to make radio songs and morph their styles to whatever is hot at the moment. It's all good, but too many of them are forcing their vocals into the

Hip-Hop debates

Now anyone who likes or loves rap/ hip-hop also loves the hip-hop debate. From which verse is hotter, to what album is better, to which rapper is better, there is endless discussion in high school cafeterias, barbershops, basements, and college campuses across the country. The hip-hop discussion is probably second only to basketball related conversations in the black community. The best of both

High Expectations

There are some people in this world for whom the normal is unacceptable. IN Sports it's no longer enough for Kobe or Lebron to get to the playoffs, they are expected to compete for and win the title every year. Alex Rodriguez cannot just hit .320 and knock in 120 runs, he needs to carry the team to the World Series. Same goes for Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Brett Favre. In hip-hop, Jay-z and
