10. Camp- Childish Gambino
Now this is the most out of place album for some people, especially those who don't know of Childish. I heard Derrick Glover's mix tape last year at the behest of someone else and liked it but I wasn't prepared for how ill this album is to me. I haven't gone a week without listening to this album twice from beginning to end since I got it. I relate to it in several

Most disappointing rappers of all time
While having a top 10 discussion on facebook and one of the statements of course involved Canibus when LL was brought up. Canibus was one of the nicest dudes to every put lyric to mic however, he is one of the most disappointing because he didn't have anything close to a career. But that led me to think who are the biggest letdowns when it comes to rappers.
1. Jadakiss- a lot of people have

Mix tapes are out of control
So you may know I'm not a big fan of the modern mix tape, especially as is treated like an album, albeit with limited distribution and no direct checks for the artists. I understand, once 50 Cent and Gip-set were able to make a huge push in the streets with them, they became the accepted way to gain publicity and create a buzz, though since then, the impact has been negated because literally

Album Review- Pusha T- Fear of God II
Look I thought this was another mixtape so I didn't even look at the track list. This is the album version of the mix tape though and it shows that much of the street release was good enough to be turned into a studio album in your stores. There are minimal changes if you already have it, but it's only right to show Push some official love.

What makes a good artist- Part 1
I know that when I post and talk about hip-hop I can seem unconventional at times. I'm pretty sure some people think that I am just trying to go against convention just to be doing so but believe me I don't. Those people are just as bad as the people who never question artists who are designated by the public as the guys who are hot. People like Drake and Lil Wayne today get a pass just because

Mysonne
Simply put this post is about an artist who was one of the next in line to blow around the time when Jadakiss was coming into his own and 50 Cent was beginning to get his shine on. Ironically, considered the next Shyne, Mysonne was on the sure fire path to stardom. Unfortunately, a jail stint put his career on hold and I for one thought this guy might not ever surface again. He got out and a

Top 55 of All Time? - Part 6
Finally, we're into the money now with the top 20. I just think I
need to remind everyone that this list does include notable historical hip-hop
icons such as Slick Rick, KRS-One, and Rakim just to name a few.
Understanding this, there would be a lot of movement of the top 25 or so
but this is how it stands here we go:
20. Cam'ron - I
feel bad because I almost forgot about Killa Cam. This

Top 55 of All Time? - Part 4
Part 4 of my series and countdown of the top 55 (56) rappers in my all time list. The last edition ended with Big Boi of the illustrious group Outkast at number 37 so let's continue.
36. Ja Rule - He is definately not the best lyricist to ever enter the game but he was the top artist from 2001 until 2003 or so until a beef with 50 Cent derailed what was a successful career. His debut album was

Involvement- Get Some
Now I have posted several times about how today's hip-hop artists are bullshit when it comes to what they do in the community. They can talk about how they want to inspire, even complain about Barack Obama yet all I see is video at the strip club or popping bottles in the wood paneled studio with blunts being passed around but very rarely do you see them doing anything remotely positive.

Guess what Ny Ny we baaackkk...
So almost 5 years ago, Jay-z proclaimed that New York was back on the Kingdom Come album. Honestly, it felt like there could be a revival, you had Jim Jones and the Dip-set holding it down and 50 Cent was still riding high. However, the momentum could not continue and thus it died right with 'Superman'. A couple years later, Jay-z tried again to revive the New York feel on D.O.A. but alas, while

You excited about Detox? I'm not...
Let me say this, Dr. Dre is one of the biggest hip-hop icons involved with just about everything major that has come out of LA for the past 20 years from "Turn Out the Lights" with the World Class Wreckin Cru to the fact that Nipsey Hussle looks like he could be Snoop's lost child. Dre has shaped everything we expect from the West Coast plus thrown out Eminem and 50 Cent. To say his resume isn't

As is Hip-Hop Awards for 2010- Biggest Letdown
So for this year I was expecting some people to have some big albums and as always I was disappointed. Not as much as last year but truthfully, it's the biggest albums that failed to meet expectations. In fact the best albums of my 'calendar year' were in fact at the end of 2009. Let me just dive into it.
5. Big Boi- Sir Lucious Leftfoot the Son of Chico Dusty.
I know, it's Big Boi, you can't

So let's talk another stupid list
BET dropped its list of the top 10 rappers of the 21st century (like we don't know that it's only been 10 years). Once again we have a bunch of people who are kissing ass and not being critical enough of their peers. Taking away Jay-z for no apparent reason other than to not have be named number 1 at something else. Fine I can take that but when i looked at the rankings I noticed that it is

New Singles Review - 9/29
So this week's new singles start off with one from Bruno Mars featuring Damien Marley. This joint has me searching the house for a blank cd I'm feeling it so much. I love the feel of the song, the way their voices blend with the track and the song lyrics itself. This is just an all around good track and I'm liking what I hear from Bruno. I present to you "Liquor Store Blues"

Album Review- Fat Joe- The Darkside Vol. 1
So flying under the radar even more than usual, is Fat Joe who seems to feel the need to release an album every year. This time, it is titled the Darkside Vol 1., so this seems to be the first in a planned series. Unlike precious releases, Joe doesn't even have a big single to help at least get some promotion for the album.
Joe starts with the dark production to go in with the theme on the Intro

I don't like mixtapes
This post is about a sore spot I have with the new rap industry, mix tapes. Now This isn't at anyone specific though I have listened to a few mix tapes recently, this is a problem that began in the early part of last decade. Mix tapes aren't mixes anymore, they are el cheapo albums which is why I refuse to buy them unless prodded by the wife when we are out and she is feeling sympathetic. I'm

Top Artists of the decade
So after looking at the best albums, It is only right to just give a little attention to the top artists of the time period. Not much to say other than the sum total of their work over the period is taken into consideration along with their actual skill and influence over the hip-hop community.1. Jay-zlol it's a no brainer, since 1995/96 Jay has been constant on the scene and while we can debate

The Top albums of the decade
So i am officially back from my winter sabbatical and i really didn't realize that this was the end of the decade until people started trotting out accolades for it. It got me to thinking, especially when you talk about the best albums of the past 10 years. I found that it wasn't even hard to come up with an initial list and no it doesn't include Lil Wayne. In fact, it doesn't even have an album

Album Review-50 Cent- Before I Self Destruct
Between beefs 50 cent does record albums. Lately, raps bad guy has thrown jabs at Jay-z, and more hooks to Rick Ross and Fat Joe in preparation for the release of his latest album, Before I Self Destruct. Some people say that 50 has fallen off but his music has remained consistent and relatively the same since he came out. The biggest problem other than the lack of advancement in subject matter,

They thought 50 was dead
Then he comes and hits you over the head with this shit here:This joint cannot be denied and I don't care where the beat came from. This is the type of shit Jay was supposed to have on Blueprint 3 if he was really tryna make a statement. It didn't have to be "crimewave" but he needed some hard shit to follow up "D.O.A." and "Run This Town".This beat knocks, the song rocks and this is what Fif is
