Album Review- Obie Trice- Bottoms Up

Obie Trice's first album was underrated by a lot of people. They felt he was a gimmick because of the lead single and this is a path I've talked about before when he dropped his second album, 'Second Round's On Me' where he tried to push too hard to show his 'harder' side in a sense. The feel was much less refined and though Obie still raps the same, it didn't feel as complete. Now Obie is back

My Top 20 Favortie Rap Albums - Part 2

10. Camp- Childish Gambino

Now this is the most out of place album for some people, especially those who don't know of Childish. I heard Derrick Glover's mix tape last year at  the behest of someone else and liked it but I wasn't prepared for how ill this album is to me. I haven't gone a week without listening to this album twice from beginning to end since I got it. I relate to it in several

Most disappointing rappers of all time

While having a top 10 discussion on facebook and one of the statements of course involved Canibus when LL was brought up. Canibus was one of the nicest dudes to every put lyric to mic however, he is one of the most disappointing because he didn't have anything close to a career. But that led me to think who are the biggest letdowns when it comes to rappers.

1. Jadakiss- a lot of people have

Album Review- Yelawolf- Radioactive

I may be behind but hear is one release that many people seem to be waiting on before stepping out to cop, the newest Shady Records release from the 'other white guy' Yelawolf. Heralded as someone bringing something new to the game, the Alabama native has been featured on a lot of Southern albums and grinding for the past few years before Marshall Mathers snatched him up. The first of the

Top 55 of all time? - The Final Chapter

So now we have my top ten and actually this section is probably anti-climactic when compared to the previous sets of ten. I know there have been some shocks and surprises along the way and I will have taken bumps and bruises and my share of criticism but every list is like this. Here we go, the final top 10:

10. Kanye West - Now I hate Kanye's personality and his outward arrogance. However, I

When I was Seventeen- that year in hiphop

So i blogged about how the MTV show "When I was 17" panders too much to the younger generation by having artists who haven't accomplished much and who aren't much older than their listeners. I don't think it brings anything to the culture to hear from someone your same age who remembers the same things you do in the same way with little time between to even reflect on it. Hell, the artists I came

Worst line from The Carter IV

So I found another post through various sources about the Carter IV, but more specifically the 60 worst individual lines on the album. Since a lot of dudes like Wayne now this is a pretty good assessment of what he has been doing in the past few years. See a lot of people tell me I should like Wayne because they say I like lyrics-which is true, but the problem that I have always had with Wayne is

Album Review- Royce da 5'9- Success is Certain

So fresh on the heels of the Bad Meets Evil reunion album with Eminem and the signing of his group Slaughterhouse, to the Shady Records imprint, Royce da 59 is releasing another studio album, "Success is Certain". Now I have had this for a few weeks but in the aftermath of the much overhyped Watch the Throne I had to go back and get a good listen on this one.

The album starts off with "Legendary

Album Review-Bad Meets Evil- Hell-The Sequel

So one of the biggest developments in underground/lyrical hip-hop was the winter signing of Slaughterhouse to Shady Records. One of the back stories to the entire deal was the reconciliation of Eminem and Royce da 5'9. Though their beef had been squashed years before it took some conversations and 'manning up' over the past 18 months or so to bring this entire deal about. So its a good thing, and

You excited about Detox? I'm not...

Let me say this, Dr. Dre is one of the biggest hip-hop icons involved with just about everything major that has come out of LA for the past 20 years from "Turn Out the Lights" with the World Class Wreckin Cru to the fact that Nipsey Hussle looks like he could be Snoop's lost child. Dre has shaped everything we expect from the West Coast plus thrown out Eminem and 50 Cent. To say his resume isn't

Album Review- T.I.- No Mercy

So T.I. may be back in jail again but his new album is 'free'. The Long awaited follow-up to Paper Trail which was released originally two years ago, an eternity in the new rap game, hits shelves just in time for the holidays. Following a mixtape that had two lackluster singles, No Mercy is Tip's attempt to climb back to the top after his forced hiatus.

The album begins with "Welcome to the

As is Hip-Hop Awards for 2010- Biggest Letdown

So for this year I was expecting some people to have some big albums and as always I was disappointed. Not as much as last year but truthfully, it's the biggest albums that failed to meet expectations. In fact the best albums of my 'calendar year' were in fact at the end of 2009. Let me just dive into it.

5. Big Boi- Sir Lucious Leftfoot the Son of Chico Dusty.

I know, it's Big Boi, you can't

So let's talk another stupid list

BET dropped its list of the top 10 rappers of the 21st century (like we don't know that it's only been 10 years). Once again we have a bunch of people who are kissing ass and not being critical enough of their peers. Taking away Jay-z for no apparent reason other than to not have be named number 1 at something else. Fine I can take that but when i looked at the rankings I noticed that it is

Album Review- Stat Quo- Statlanta

Now for a few people the name Stat Quo might ring a bell as he was once signed to Shady records under Eminem and seemed to be destined to be the label's representative from the south. Label Politics and other issues kept that from happening but he didn't disappear as some people who leave the major labels tend to do. Stat is back with the official debut, still titled "Statlanta"

Album Review- Eminem- Recovery

So the second most-anticipated of the summer behind Drake is the return of Eminem and everyone is wondering if he can recapture the glory that he had on his first three albums. Relapse was an uneven effort at it's best with Em trying but failing to capture the feeling of his Slim Shady days.

The first single, "Not Afraid" is pretty self-indulgent but it also serves as an anthem for those

The Top albums of the decade

So i am officially back from my winter sabbatical and i really didn't realize that this was the end of the decade until people started trotting out accolades for it. It got me to thinking, especially when you talk about the best albums of the past 10 years. I found that it wasn't even hard to come up with an initial list and no it doesn't include Lil Wayne. In fact, it doesn't even have an album

Nicki Minaj makes excuses...

Now I meant to write or talk about the BET hip-hop awards cipher but other things came before it. However, thanks to Nicki Minaj, I remembered to talk about it. First, let me address what she is talking about in this next clip. She whined for a while but then she gets to the point that people weren't just saying that oh your verse was written. The problem was that her shit was performed. It didn't

As Is Hip-Hop Awards- Album of the year

So this is the big one in my own personal award ceremony. The Album of the year. The grand enchilada of all awards. Now my finalists are definately not the orthodox when you would look at most hip-hop publications/ sites/ broadcasters. Let's start:Number 5:The Last KissI didn't like Jada's album at all and this shows how week the year's hip-hop releases are when a Kiss album is in the top 5 and

Riding the beat too much..

I have noticed the hot trend right now with rappers is that all of them are riding and attacking beats the exact same way and only picking tracks that already go with their voices/ styles. Now it can be a useful technique in the artist's arsenal but by no means should it be the only, or even main trick in my opinion.Let's looks at some of the popular artists of today. T.I. for one uses hardly any

Album Review- Jay-z- Blueprint 3

So the most highly anticipated album of the year's release is finally upon us as Jay-Z's the Blueprint 3 is just around the corner. Jay is looking to once again dominate the hip-hop headlines and charts, and judging of fof the buzz both good and bad from D.O.A. and Run this Town he is well positioned to do just that. Now I earlier wrote a blog about having high expectations for artists like Jay-z
