Album Review- Styles P- Master of Ceremonies

By now, Styles P is a member of Hip-hop history even though it would seem to be at odds with his street persona, he is a rapper. A throwback to a grittier era, this album is a straightforward example of NY hip-hop.

The album starts off with an ode to smoking "This is How i Fly" which features Avery Storm. It sounds like an early 00's album mid-tempo cut and that's exactly what it is. Nothing too

Top 55 of All Time? - Part 2

So in part two, I will continue counting down but let me also clue you in as to why some of your afvorite current rappers aren't in this countdown. I know someone is going to say Drake is better than Mase, why isn't he on the list? The reason is simple, he hasn't done nearly enough to prove himself to me as a critic and a fan. One half assed album does not get you onto the top 55 for me. My

Album Review- Sheek Louch- Donnie G Don Gorilla

So I'm backed up on reviews but I did get to listen to the latest solo effort by the third member of The Lox, my man Sheek Louch. Now most people are busy talking about how nice Jada is or how real Styles keeps it, but I've always preferred Sheek verses to either of them.

The album begins with the "Rhyme Animal" intro and Sheek's bars are sharper than they have been in the past. See he talks

Album Review- Joell Ortiz- Free Agent

So Joell has been one of my favorite emcees for the past couple of years. He has blessed plenty of beats with his raw skills and even dropped a mixtape I liked where he rapped over classic tracks. However, I have been worried that he wouldn't be able to translate the lyrics into cohesive concepts for an album though I have been hoping the Slaughterhouse cd was a reflection of what he could do on

Posse Songs used to be Hot

Now I actually have a cd of "Posse Cuts", songs where you have a group of people who aren't in a group on the same song. What has gotten me upset you might say? For one this new song from Drake, Wayne, Kanye and Eminem is a pure disappointment. Take a listen for yourself. This might not be here for long, but what I get is a jumble of mess. There is no big theme to the song or point to it, just

When Hip-hop was hip-hop and not R and B 2

The remix used to be the truth. It was actually worth hearing a song to hear a unique collaboration between artists that you didn't normally hear. Today, when remixes go down it just sounds like another song the same artists just made. If I hear one more song with Rick Ross, Wayne, Plies, and T-pain I am going to url.Rand B was the same way. Now you just have Ne-yo on everyone's album, as is the

Boss?

The big trend now is calling yourself a "boss" and creating your own record label. On the one hand I don't have a big problem with it, if you know what you're doing. Running a record label is empowering and the different types offer varying levels of independence balanced with exposure. Here is my biggest problem with rappers running labels, if you don't have a solid career yourself, why would you

Letter to B.I.G.

Now this has to be the best Jadakiss song ever. I mean of all the songs and raps he has ever done. It shows what he can do when he is focused on something and actually making an attempt. I cannot understand who would put Jada in their top 5 off of what he has done but if he can ever manage to put out more material like this he could actually get to be there. Until then I guess its more raps about
