Album Review - Nas - Life is Good
One of the most anticipated albums of 2012 is without a doubt the return of Nasty Nas. For whatever reason, there is more want for this album than a long time for Nas. Maybe it's my generation holding on and hoping one of our legends can drop a classic that will 'save hip hop'. Maybe it was the return of good Nas on the street singles "Nasty" and "The Don" which whet our appetites for one of the

Album (EP?) Review - ASAP Rockie - Goldie
So ASAP Rockie is one of the hottest new artists on the scene right now and has been getting a buzz for well over a year. Coming on the heels of a successful year with a mix tape or two, he drops an EP that is built more like an album around the single 'Goldie'.
"Goldie" the title track has a solid beat with a heavy throwback Miami style bass line and a screwed hook. The song is the typical '

Most disappointing rappers of all time
While having a top 10 discussion on facebook and one of the statements of course involved Canibus when LL was brought up. Canibus was one of the nicest dudes to every put lyric to mic however, he is one of the most disappointing because he didn't have anything close to a career. But that led me to think who are the biggest letdowns when it comes to rappers.
1. Jadakiss- a lot of people have

Top 55 of All Time? - Part 2
So in part two, I will continue counting down but let me also clue you in as to why some of your afvorite current rappers aren't in this countdown. I know someone is going to say Drake is better than Mase, why isn't he on the list? The reason is simple, he hasn't done nearly enough to prove himself to me as a critic and a fan. One half assed album does not get you onto the top 55 for me. My

Album Review- Travis Barker- Give the Drummer Some
So Travis Barker is well known as the rock and roll drummer for Blink 182 but he also has some serious love for hip-hop and ties to the community. In fact he might be the rock and roll equivalent of Bishop Magic Don Juan in some respects. Unlike Don Juan however, Barker does actually have a purpose and skills. So he is releasing a hip-hop feature laden album with a huge variety of artists, sort

Album Review- Saigon- The Greatest Story Never Told
So another Atlantic records artist who has been in purgatory over there for a while recently dropped an album along with Lupe. Saigon is one of the more well known underground mc's and he has been trying to get his album released for at least four years now. A former inmate, he is known as more of a conscious thug, one who can speak on it because he has been there.
The album starts with a

Swizz the best producer ever? Not by a long shot
I might get a new moniker as the guy who always goes against Kanye dumbass west. But honestly, this time, I have some grounds other than personal reasons to counter his latest assessment that Swizz Beats is the best hip-hop producer of all time. Not to take from Swizz who has had a sort of resurgence as of late as he has found a sort of space in which his tracks can survive with a modicum of

What Happened to Cassidy?
I was listening to a compilation of Cassidy joints the other day and I really had to wonder where he went and why did he fall off so fast? This guy had hit singles galore and made albums of a decent quality. He also had street rep and battling skills for anyone who wanted to test his validity as an artist.Cassidy feat. R. Album Review- Jay-z- Blueprint 3
So the most highly anticipated album of the year's release is finally upon us as Jay-Z's the Blueprint 3 is just around the corner. Jay is looking to once again dominate the hip-hop headlines and charts, and judging of fof the buzz both good and bad from D.O.A. and Run this Town he is well positioned to do just that. Now I earlier wrote a blog about having high expectations for artists like Jay-z

Gotta Get Ya Groove on!
Now normally I guess I seem like the average Southern Music basher or something close to that, but there is one thing I am extremely proud of dudes from the South of doing. Bringing back grown men dancing. Now yeah I know you're about to say hold up, didn't you call the G-spot boys clowns for doing the "Stanky Legg"? Yes, i did. You know why, look at this shit.GS BOYZ show you the "Stanky

Do Beats make the songs now?
There has been a lot of change going on in the hip-hop world. While we may be able to debate whether or not lyricism is dying or dead, we can agree that production is more widely varied than before. In the South, there are the crashing sounds of producers Like the Runners and Cool and Dre whose tracks sound like portions of a movie score. The West Coast still offers some of the best funk beats

The Local Responsibility problem
Beginning tomorrow, my local radio station 92q (92.3 WERQ FM) plans to start playing the Ricky Smiley radio show in the morning after letting go our local morning team. Now Baltimore is a top 30 market which means we deserve to have our own programming and stations. The biggest problem is our proximity to Washington DC which further fragments the selection because we can get DC stations which are
